Working with Visual Artists

It is a real pleasure to have been printing for a number of local visual artists and visual arts students for 10 years now. Clients include photographic and illustrative artists, painters and other mixed media artists.

It’s great to be able to facilitate the printing of an artist’s work for portfolio, exhibition, competition and for high volume sales. Printing with artists is a process which I find enjoyable. Learning the meaning behind the work, becoming familiar with the artwork’s visual characteristics, and seeing how each image fits into the final body of work to be printed.

Communication with the artist is very important. Before sending files for print, it is good to discuss certain details, such as the most appropriate image file settings to use, and in which format the artwork can be best saved for print.

It is always preferable to speak in person or over the phone, although email and text are fine too. I try to keep the print process as simple as possible for you the artist. This helps in producing the highest quality final prints.

When received, every file is checked on the colour calibrated RGB art monitor. Should any irregularities appear in the image, such as colour cast, sizing or other details, we can discuss editing to correct for print.

A small amount of image editing for print would not usually be charged for, however should the images require an extensive amount of editing or retouching, as can sometimes be the case with film photography, it can be done at a reasonable, agreed fee. Image print preparation and help with colour adjustments is available, if you feel this can be beneficial. I am always willing to work with the artist to help get the best quality prints we can.
